I went into Dr. Walrath’s office about one year before I actually committed to having eye surgery. Although I was tired of looking tired, I was not sure about plastic surgery, because I did not see myself as the type of person that would have plastic surgery. Not that I was judging anyone who has plastic surgery, but I have tried hard to force people to see the real me which is far more than the surface – but that is some seriously hard, hard work.
Anyway, back to the good – no, great – doctor. Once I got around my internal conflicts, I contacted the office and made the appointment with Angelica (a sweetheart and very patient). My situation was a little different in that 1) I have a condition, keratoconus, which has already robbed me of my vision and caused the need for a corneal transplant and 2) I work in Africa. I need not have worried though. Dr. Walrath and his staff accommodated my needs beautifully. They communicated with me over email and allowed me to schedule times to call in to get my operation-related questions answered.
I explained to Dr. Walrath that I have had these “old lady” eyes since I was a child; dark circles compliments of one grandma, hooded lids compliment of the other. I love my grandmas and I think they are beautiful, but at 8 people thought I was 20 and at 20 they thought I was 40. I got confused for my mom’s sister and my dad’s wife(at the time they were both in their 60s) so many times I can’t remember. It was devastating – and humiliating to say the least. Dr.Walrath was honest and told me the dark circles would probably not be helped by the surgery, but the hoods would go away.
In December 2019, I went under the knife and came out looking less tired, happier, and, yes, younger. I know this because when I returned to work in my country office in Africa, several people told me so. They had no idea I was having my lids fixed so I do not think they were being polite about the procedure. They were being honest – and I loved it!!!
Dr. Walrath provided me with an additional scar removal cream for free to help smooth incisions. He also offered to see me via email and photos or Zoom/Skype at my third month follow-up. I must say, in absolute honesty, he is an excellent doctor. He did not just correct the extra skin on the lid, but fixed my ptosis issue. He made sure the surgery would not irritate my corneal transplant or affect the keratoconus worse. He made sure to ensure my eyelids would completely close after the surgery to prevent dry eye problems.
I highly recommend, Dr. Walrath. You can tell from his credentials that he has the knowledge and the schooling to be a skillful doc, but these things do not tell you a thing about his personality, integrity, or bedside manner. True, I have only known the man for a short amount of time, but I have always been treated fairly and with respect and great customer service. He is efficient, but patient; super intelligent, but affable; self-assured, but not cocky. Most importantly, he is amazing at what he does and I look -and feel – the better because of it.
